Ready for next year...

I'm sad it's over.I haven't rattled on about my Hawaii trip because I had an ounce of hope that my beloved A's would make it into the postseason. I was crushed tonight by the Los Angeles Angeles of Anahaim in Ontario, by Temechulah, near Chino. I'm going to Thursday's game to see my boys for the last time this season, even though the game doesn't mean a damn thing.

Guess I'm gonna root for Cleveland...that is if they make it. Oh and St. Louis of course!

In other news, I'm workin' on a podcast that will interest some of you. More news about that later.

I haven't had much to say lately, probably because I'm chomping at the bit to get to Hawaii on Saturday - yes, Hawaii! A week of hopefully sun, snorkelling, kalua pig and shaved ice.

At the Ready

Yesterday I spent a good part of the day at the Red Cross in Oakland. My friend Kris already had plans to volunteer and I decided to join her to see what I could do. Basically, we helped the administrative process of getting prospective volunteers to training sessions for either the National/Local Call Centers or for Family Service (meeting face to face with those affected by Katrina).

It was pretty inspiring to see a large number of people willing to give time to help - especially the numbers of those that want to be deployed to areas really in need of assistance. Not everyone will qualify for deployment and the volunteers pretty much vocalized the worse case scenario to try and scare of those who, quite frankly, don't have the chops. There's a pretty intensive screening for deployment and chances are over half the volunteers from the Bay Area will not even make the cut. Still, those volunteers have good intentions.

I want to thank Kris for showing me what I could do - even if it is something small. It hard for me to justify sittin' around on my ass and surfing the web. Too many people are hurting and continue to hurt. I'm going back on Sunday.

Moto Troublin'

Yesterday the display on my beloved Motorola RAZR conked out. Yeah, it just simply stopped working. I have never dropped the phone, never treated it badly. I called cingular and they said that I have a year warranty. HOWEVER, if by their examination, they conclude that the non-working display is MY fault, then Ihave to pay $225. I'm pretty confident that will not happen, since i didn't do anything to it. BUT, I've had bad luck with cell phone companies in the past. I took a bunch of pictures of my old phone hoping that will help in my defense, but that might serve as squat.

The good news - I got my replacement phone today! Pretty quick service, and they gave me the packaging I needed to send my old one back. Now I wait for my verdict.

Tomorrow, I'm going to volunteer at the Red Cross with a friend of mine. She's already helped out and asked if I wanted to come. How can I refuse? I'm not sure what to expect, but anything I do will be related to the Hurricane Relief efforts. I just hope I can really be of help out here in the West Coast. Apparently, there are plenty of people here in the Bay Area that are volunteering to go to New Orleans, but not all of them really have the chops to do the relief work in the area.

On the sports front - i'm VERY relieved that my boys pulled out the win today (and in dramatic fashion)...especially since I personally viewed another loss last night. I hope they have the momentum to keep going because they sure are fun to watch.
