Murray the Penguin

25 Jan

Rockhopper Penguin by su neko (suneko)

Question/Thought of the day from Plinky: Pick a wild animal to keep as a pet.

I’ve always wanted a penguin. If I had one I would give it a designated cold room, buy a crap load of fish and constantly visit winter destinations. Thus, changing my lifestyle completely leading me to lose my brown coloring. Maybe it’s not so great of an idea after all.

His name would be Murray.

One more Holiday Greeting

25 Dec

I’ve been playing around with 12seconds.tv over the past month and I’m starting to really like the short video burst format. Today my sister and I recorded a greeting with a planned pop-in by Tom, but an unexpected one from my dad (audio only).

My Dad (a die-hard Lakers fan) watches the annual Christmas day game featuring his favorite  team. He’s just a bit passionate for the game of basketball, and decided to watch the game upstairs. It’s very faint, but I think you can still hear him, no?

Merry Christmas from our family on 12seconds.tv

Anyone in your family yell at the TV while watching their favorite team?

Looking at this photo my first thought ,was that I probably would not be able to fit into that dress today. But that’s not the point of this post – heh.

Today is a good day. I’m on vacation, with Tom (and Jango!) confirming that what we did 5 years ago was not a fluke, and the best decision we’ve ever made — so far.

Cheers!

I used this photos as my Holiday Card this year. Moo printed amazing cards for me and I recommend their services. I finally updated to a Flickr Pro account and as a free gift I get 10 Moo cards. Can’t wait.

This year Tom & I are will be spending the holidays with friends and family in California. I hope you have a great holiday season.

End of summer in sight – hooray!

27 Aug

I love summer, but time passes and it must end.  I’m personally looking forward to Fall.  Barcelona in November, will obviously be the big highlight for me, but I honestly look forward to wearing my comfy sweater and the crisp cool air.

A few of my friends will be adding a new family member (Sarah & Rachel) , and my sister will start a new job! Hooray! I can’t wait to see what the future holds for her :)

Maybe I’ll finally organize the chaos that is called “the office”. Maybe “work” will no longer be a four-letter word to me.  Maybe I’ll be content after travelling.

In other news – I have finally separated my chocolate reviews from this site.  You can now find them exclusively at eloveschocolate.com. It’s definitely still a work in progress (can you say, I need a new header?), but it’ll do for now.

PS – My renewed passport came in the mail a day after my panic attack blog post.  Barcelona is officially on! Que Bueno!

Missed a week!

25 Jul

Oops! i already broke my own promise of writing here once a week. Honestly, I thought I had posted something witty and exciting in the midst of my really BUSY past couple of weeks.
I have had a lot on the brain lately…family, work, home – you know, the usual. I think the difference is, I’m prioritizing what is important and healthy for my life. I’m pretty sure age (I just turned 34) has a lot to do with it.

I guess real bloggers let it all go, and give you the insight on their lives, but I’m just not there yet. I’m here and I’m cryptic, and that’s the way it’s gotta be for now. Hordes of people aren’t reading this blog, but I guess I’m just trying to protect any privacy I have.

Overall, life IS good and hopefully just getting better. I think I finally have a grip on what I need and want to do.

Happy Holidays to All!

25 Dec

December was a weird month for us. First, Tom & I were sick for most of the month – blah. I don’t know what was going around, but it lingered and sucked. I think I tried almost every over the counter drug possible. I finally knocked it out of my system, but it felt like I was fighting a war with the virus.

Then there was the tragic loss of our friend James Kim. That was a big blow, especially for Tom who worked closely with him. Please keep the family in your prayers.

Now it’s Christmas Day and I feel like it crept up on me. I’ve been working long hours on a new HGTV show and despite what Tom will say, I’m not a scrooge. We just didn’t make the time to get our tree this year, or send out Christmas Cards.

I leave you with this smiley pic of Jango. Tomorrow, I’ll tell you about our cool gifts. Happy Holidays!

Success!

23 Nov

I can honestly say that Thanksgiving happened in the Rivera-Merritt house.
Somehow I found the energy to go to Trader Joe’s (yesterday) and buy most of the ingredients, including the boxed, boneless Turkey.  I forgot the sage and milk, but Kristin & Dad picked that up this morning.

The only thing I made from scratch was the adobo and the stuffing.  The stuffing ingredients: sausage, bacon and clams.  I think it was a hit with the family.

An hour before the meal, I hit my ceiling and my energy level was zapped.  Luckily Tom & Kristin popped in to finish up the mashed potatoes and the gravy.  Tom pretty much was in charge of the boxed Turkey and did a great job.

I’m glad the day happened, even though I wasn’t truly myself.  Now back to “True Hollywood Story: Friends”.
