The Idol Times – Grand Ole Opry week

18 Mar

Sorry to bore those of you who could care less about this show, but once a week I really need some ear candy. I thought I could keep up with my predictions, but obviously I’ve done a horrible job since the first week. So here’s a short review of each contestant and prediction:

It’s Grand ‘Ole Opry week which is not one of my favorites, but it tends to bring out the best and worst of singers. How funny was Randy Travis with Adam?

Danny – there’s a lot of hate for this guy in the blog world (from those that actually watch the show) and I just don’t get it. Check Dial Idol and guess who’s number 1? Yup it’s Danny. Wasn’t his best night, but if you don’t like him, too bad. He’s not going anywhere and that’s the way it should be. When he got to the chorus, it was amazing (and I don’t even like the song he sang).

ANOOP! So happy to see he’s back. I thought he was the best of the night. Loved, Loved, loved him! Way to just do it.

Matt – Woo hoo! Man I love this guy. I thought his performance was really nice.

Lil – bad song. I too wish that she had done I Will Always Love You. I still love her though.

Adam – Meh. Not my thing. I love the original version and I while I love the fact that he is unique, some of those falsetto notes were horrid. I don’t care if he’s over the top, I just care if he sings well. Tonight was not it.

Megan – great song choice for her. But honestly, sick or not sick, I CANNOT STAND HER PHRASING. Blech.

Alison – Great performance, but will people remember her?

Michael Sarver – the only one who really sang country tonight. I don’t like that song, but he served the genre well.

Chris Allen – this is the first time I really enjoyed his vocals. Great job!

Alexis – ugh. Poor thing. I did not like this interpretation. Did Brooke do this last year? I seem to remember liking Jolene last year and on paper you’d think this was a great choice for Alexis. What happened? I like her and I hope she doesn’t go anywhere.

Scott – I didn’t like his song choice. He’s an awesome pianist, but I just haven’t connected with him. He’s kind of boring to me, but I want him to make the tour.

Going home: Alexis or Allison - although I’m thinking this could be the week the judges use the “save” option.

My personal faves: Danny, Anoop and Matt (in no particular order)

Got Lent?

8 Mar

No Coffee
I was raised Catholic, but I cannot claim being entirely devout. Still, every year I like to try giving up something during Lent. For those of you who are not familiar with Lent, here a short description from Wikipedia: Lent is the forty-day-long liturgical season of fasting and prayer before Easter.

I think of it as a cleansing or detox period. One year I gave up red meat, another year I gave up sugar. This year it’s caffeine. I don’t drink soda or regular coffee, but I do have a latte every morning and I love tea (earl grey and rooibos – not chamomile).

So here we go and 10 days into Lent, I’m doing well. No headaches, just cravings and some morning grouchiness. I’ll admit to having a decaf latte everyday — I know, I know it has a tiny bit of caffeine — but that’s not cheating is it?

Also, I’ll be posting some updates on 12seconds.tv. 30 more days to go!

I’m watching “The District”

18 Feb

How brilliant is this show? What a way to get our little MTV-ADD minds into the political game. So far only three episodes and I WANT MORE! Here’s the description from Newsweek:

Ever wondered what it would be like if the makers of MTV’s hit ‘The City’ made a reality show about Obama’s first 100 days? Wonder no more. Check back Mondays for new episodes.

I definitely subscribed to this show. On another note, as a web content producer I can’t help but say to myself, “Why didn’t I think of that”?

Murray the Penguin

25 Jan

Rockhopper Penguin by su neko (suneko)

Question/Thought of the day from Plinky: Pick a wild animal to keep as a pet.

I’ve always wanted a penguin. If I had one I would give it a designated cold room, buy a crap load of fish and constantly visit winter destinations. Thus, changing my lifestyle completely leading me to lose my brown coloring. Maybe it’s not so great of an idea after all.

His name would be Murray.

Road to the Doghouse

UPDATE: It’ll either be a Labradoodle or Portuguese Water Dog. Obama told George Stephanopolis.

I love dogs and I love Anderson Cooper. Plus, I’m slightly obsessed with who will be crowned the next First Dog. This segment has it all. Thank you Daily Show!

One more Holiday Greeting

25 Dec

I’ve been playing around with 12seconds.tv over the past month and I’m starting to really like the short video burst format. Today my sister and I recorded a greeting with a planned pop-in by Tom, but an unexpected one from my dad (audio only).

My Dad (a die-hard Lakers fan) watches the annual Christmas day game featuring his favorite  team. He’s just a bit passionate for the game of basketball, and decided to watch the game upstairs. It’s very faint, but I think you can still hear him, no?

Debussy’s Clair de Lune

8 Dec

I swiped this from Garry’s posterous blog. Thanks again Garry!

Today is just one of those days. This Monday, is busy, crazy, unpredictable and this song really helps calms me. The visuals are quite hypnotic too. I think I might watch this every time I get agitated or frustrated. Hooray for the little things in life.
